WHO IS GEORGE?
    George Lazaris (they/them) is a Melbourne-based theatre director, dramaturg and playwright, a graduate of VCA Masters of Directing for Performance who has worked across plays, musicals, opera and cabaret. Their work grasps back stories appropriated by patriarchal systems, and opens the floor for a diversity of talent and perspective in the reperforming of classic tales.

Fifty brides are betrothed to fifty grooms against their will. Forty-nine of the brides murder forty-nine of the grooms in cold blood. Then there’s a wedding.

This reworking of The Suppliants by Aeschylus set on a wedding reception dance floor at 2am  explores how non-binary and trans people fit into a classic work about gender.
